Understanding the currency calculator
Converting currency is simple arithmetic multiply by the exchange rate but the rate you actually get is rarely the mid-market rate you see quoted online. Banks, airport kiosks, and card networks add a margin, either as an explicit fee or baked into a worse rate. This calculator makes that gap visible by letting you enter both the rate and a percentage fee.
Because exchange rates move constantly, enter the current rate from a reliable source before converting; this tool doesn't fetch live rates. When traveling or sending money abroad, compare the effective rate what you receive divided by what you gave up across providers rather than just the advertised rate, since a low headline rate with a high spread can cost more than an honest higher one.
